Urban Lettering Walk
Apr 30, 2012

Finally! I was able to participate in one of Paul Shaw‘s prolific type walks. This tour took place in Queens my home, specifically the neighborhoods of Woodside and Jackson Heights. Before we got started Paul said, “The reason we are doing this, is to see things before they disappear.” And indeed some of the points of interest had sadly been destroyed, like the deco 1930’s Eagle Theatre, as recent as March 2012. However, we did see much and even discovered new beautiful remnants of previous decades. As promised it was a unique experience.

Keith Harring Exhibition
Apr 23, 2012

Sunday afternoon I was able to visit the Keith Harring exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. It being his first large-scale exhibition. Some of the pieces on view include a number of very early works never before seen in public, including rarely seen sketchbooks, journals, exhibition flyers, posters, subway drawings, and documentary photographs. This show is up until July 8, 2012 I highly recommend!

I had the pleasure of being the guest cover critic for John Gall‘s final book cover design class of the semester. A course he teaches each semester at the School of Visual Arts. As expected, some beautiful work and great ideas were displayed. It is always enlightening to discuss design processes, successes and struggles.

This afternoon I had the pleasure of being on set for a photo shoot with the immensely talented Seth Smoot. I contacted Seth to shoot a still-life for the cover of Adam Ross’ new book of short stories, entitled, Ladies and Gentleman. It is always enlightening to see someone in his or her element.
